Is the most abundant seabird in the Canary Islands. It lives on the open seas and it only comes to the coast to breed in spring. During October and November, many Cory's shearwater broods, upon leaving the nests, on their first flight looking for the sea, are disoriented by the lights of the coastal developments. These birds, dazzled and on the ground, are not able to fly off on their own. In this situation they are vulnerable to being run over or being attacked.
We instruct our staff to reduce lights, assist them, and to facilitate their recovery for them to reach the sea. We can all contribute to their preservation!

Every year thousands of Cory's shearwater chicks on their first journey to the sea, fall disoriented in populated areas, unable to retake flight.
